My final business showcase this month is for Love and Threads Studio. Love and Threads Studio is owned by Tia Stauffer, aged 22 from Pennsylvania, USA.
Love and Threads Studio specializes in a range of handmade items that are made with love and threads. They specialize in a variety of zipper clutches including foldover clutches and embroidered clutches that have sayings such as “choose joy”, “you are loved”, and “wifey” on them. Love and Threads Studio also have a few handmade kimonos listed in our shop right now, as well as a handmade embroidered Mr and Mrs Banner that would be perfect as a photo prop at a wedding!
Here is my interview with Tia…
When did you start your business?
I started up Love and Threads Studio in October 2015
What made you decide to set up your business?
I have been sewing for as long as I can remember. There is something about choosing all the materials that go into making a piece that fits you and others.
What do you do and what products do you sell?
At the moment I am a full time student (graduating in May) and I also have two part time jobs that equal out to working a full time job. On the weekends and weeknights is when I do most of my sewing. Love and Threads Studio specializes in handmade clutches, as well as a few handmade kimonos that are listed in our shop and a Mr and Mrs Banner that is a perfect wedding decor piece!
What products seem to be your best sellers?
Love and Threads Studio has just recently started on Etsy, but our zipper clutches, that can be used as a coin purse or pencil pouch, are our best sellers right now. However, locally our quilts seem to be the best sellers. Stay tuned because we may be offering our quilts on Etsy in the future!
Who are your biggest competitors?
It is hard to say who our big competitors are especially on a handmade market place such as Etsy just because almost every handmade maker on Etsy can be seen as competition for buyers. However, considering we specialize in zipper clutches on Etsy, our biggest competitors would be other artists who create zipper clutches.
How do you advertise your business?
Instagram is used heavily for advertising purposes for Love and Threads Studio. When I’m working on a new product I will post a picture, so viewers can get a sneak peek of what the latest creation is made of or will be! Usually when I finish a product I will post a picture of that product before it is even listed on Etsy.
How would you recommend your business to potential customers?
For those looking for handmade zipper clutches to keep all their daily essentials in one place to easily grab and go then Love and Threads Studio is a perfect place to stop! Our handmade items are also great gift items.
Did you have any problems when starting your business? If so, how did you overcome them?
Since Love and Threads Studio is still “new” on Etsy, the biggest problem is trying to attract buyers’ attention. Not a lot of people may be aware of us right now.
How do you decide on your designs?
I look at fabrics that I myself would like to have on a bag or anything for that matter. I also follow the latest trends to see what colors are in for the season and what patterns are in.
What has been your favourite piece to work on?
Our newest “choose joy” handmade embroidered clutch is my new favorite piece! I absolutely love the fabric that was chosen. Not only that, but having something that has motivational or inspiring sayings really catch my eye, which is why I love making clutches that have these on them.
Are there any offers on your products running at the moment?
For those reading, you can use coupon code FEATURE15 to receive 15% off your total purchase until May 14th. That is just my way of saying thank you for spending some time to read up on my business, Love and Threads Studio.
What has the experience of owning a business been like for you?
It is hard work, but rewarding. When customer are happy and when followers comment saying how much they like our work it feels good.
“Our handmade zipper clutches range from $12.00 to $22.00. Be sure to check us out and follow us to stay up to date on the latest!” – Tia from Love and Threads Studio
