Product Review | Aukey Bluetooth Wireless Earpiece (EP-B9)

This Aukey wireless Bluetooth earpiece was packaged in a simple recycled brown cardboard box with a sleeve detailing the brand logo and product.

Whats included in the box:

  • 1 Aukey EP-B9 Wireless Bluetooth Earpiece
  • 1 USB charging cable
  • 3 silicon ear buds (different sizes)
  • Instruction manual and warranty card.

The earpiece is a completely black design with a snake-skin style patterning. The USB charging connection you will find located on the outside edge of the earpiece. Just below the USB charging port is the microphone. There are 3 buttons on the earpiece; the multifunction button, volume up/previous track and volume down/next track. The multifunction button is the power button, which also plays and pauses your music. In the centre of all these buttons, there is a small LED light. You get 3 ear buds that are different sizes; The medium size already attached.

The USB charging cable is a micro-USB phone charger connection. This helps with if the USB cable provided gets damaged or lost, it can be easily replaced.

When powering the earpiece on and off, pairing and connected with your Bluetooth device and when the battery is low, there are voice prompts which plainly tell you when it is on/off/pairing/connected/disconnected/low battery.

The earpiece connects to your mobile device through Bluetooth and is easily paired to your device. The instruction manual tells you exactly how to do it.  You must have Bluetooth enabled on your mobile device and ready to pair. Hold the multifunction button for a few seconds to power the earpiece on. The earphones will automatically prepare to pair. Select the device for the Bluetooth pairing list, which should show up as ‘EP-B9‘.  When the earphones are paired with the device, you will get a voice prompt of ‘connected‘. To turn the earpiece off, just hold the multifunction button again, until you get the ‘disconnected‘ voice prompt.

In terms of the battery, I think this could be better. For a full charge, you can get up to 4 hours of battery life for listening to music/talking. This roughly works out as up to 90 hours on standby. A small LED lights up red when the earphones are charging.

What is more important with a pair of earphones than the sound quality. Seeing as this is a bluetooth earpiece, you kind of get what you expect. It has good sound but I’d prefer to use earphones for music, rather than a single bluetooth earpiece. You do lose out on sound quality due to this.

All in all, for what it is, this is a good earpiece. It would be perfect for using for taking phone calls. For listening to music, even though this earpiece has the functions, it’s not great. It is pretty lightweight and sturdy, but can be awkward to put on your ear. The plastic is very solid and hasn’t got a good movement range. The design, however, is pretty good. I have never seen a bluetooth earpiece with a snake-skin style patterning.

The Aukey wireless Bluetooth earpiece is currently on sale at Amazon UK for £5.99. You get a 24 Month Manufacturer Warranty when you purchase the earphones. This is noted in the manual along with the warranty card.
