Easy Gnocchi Bolognese Recipe

I’ve said it many times before, but I love food. I love the smells, tastes and cooking in general and one thing that I always love cooking is a bolognese. I usually make a bolognese with any type of pasta but the one I use mainly is fusilli.

I wanted to do something a little different with my most recent bolognese, so while I was shopping at our local Tesco I picked up something that both Mr J and I love and we haven’t had for a while… Gnocchi.

A lot of people get mixed up with gnocchi, mistaking it for a pasta but it’s not. Gnocchi is more of a ball made up of some sort of dough or potato.

Here is a simple, easy recipe for a gnocchi bolognese.

Ingredients:

  • 500g beef mince
  • 500g Gnocchi
  • Tomato puree
  • 1 tin of chopped tomatoes
  • 250g Passata
  • 1-2 Cloves of garlic
  • Dried Onions
  • Herbs
  • Seasoning

Method:

  1. Cook the beef mince until browned. I usually cook it in its own juices in a saucepan.
  2. Add in the tomatoes, passata, tomato puree, onions and garlic and allow to cook through. Add any herbs and seasonings to your tastes. I added garlic salt, basil, parsley and coriander.
  3. While the bolognese sauce is cooking through, put the gnocchi on to boil. It takes 2-3 minutes to cook (3-4 minutes if frozen). The gnocchi floats when it is cooked.
  4. Drain the gnocchi and add to the bolognese sauce. You can skip this step if you like to have your sauce on top of your pasta/gnocchi instead of mixed in.
  5. Serve

I have to admit that a bolognese is one of my favourite meals and having it with the gnocchi made a delicious change.

Let me know what you think about gnocchi and bolognese. If you make the recipe, share how it turned out. I’d love to see! What is your favourite recipe to make? Any suggestions as to what you would love to see me cook and feature next?
